“As my friends know, I am passionate about children’s literacy. I want my children to read well – but also to love reading. I also think it is important that children enjoy reading from many different sources, but the problem is how to find a really good magazine for boys and girls.
After some research I came across mention of AQUILA – ‘for children who enjoy a challenge”. My son and I settled down with a sample copy and soon realized there were no adverts – no posters of fluffy animals or ‘must have’ games and toys – we then calculated together that one single page in AQUILA had more text than nine pages of his regular ‘Kids’ magazine.
I really can’t think of anything bad to say about this magazine. Here is a small independent publication putting out a really first class product. AQUILA is recommended for ages 8 – 12. I would say the lower age limit is fair enough. My son is age 7, but although he could read it, we chose to read it together, and I feel he got more out of the magazine with all of our discussions as a shared activity. Needless to say – I did subscribe, and I can’t wait for the next issue! ”
